— 01 / INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
We design spaces that carry weight — where every surface, proportion, and threshold is a considered decision. Architecture as autobiography.

— 01 / Spatial Thinking
We begin with proportion and light — understanding how a space breathes before a single object is placed.
— 02 / Material Craft
Every texture is chosen for how it ages. Stone, timber, plaster — materials that deepen in character over time.
— 03 / Considered Detail
The junction of a threshold, the reveal of a shelf, the shadow of a cornice — this is where architecture becomes art.
"A room is not a container.
It is a conversation
between light and life."
We believe design is inseparable from the people who inhabit it. Every commission begins with deep listening — understanding how a family moves through a morning, how a founder hosts a meeting, how a guest should feel when they first cross a threshold.
Material selections are made with patience. We build relationships with craftspeople whose hands leave traces in the work. The result is interiors that accumulate meaning over time rather than demand it immediately.

From single-family homes to penthouse renovations — we design dwellings that honour daily ritual and hold the weight of lived experience over generations.
Restaurants, hotels, retail flagships, and private clubs — spaces designed to define identity and shape the memory of every visitor who passes through them.
Galleries, foundations, and arts spaces where the architecture steps back to let the work breathe — while still insisting on a precise material and atmospheric language.
Procurement, custom fabrication, and material sourcing for existing spaces. We work with stone quarries, textile ateliers, and heritage craftspeople worldwide.
Volm Studio was founded in 2019 by Ines Volm-Arnaud in Amsterdam. We operate as a tight team of six — architects, an interior designer, and a material researcher. We take on fewer than twelve commissions a year to ensure that every project receives our full attention from brief to handover.
Our office is a converted textile warehouse in the Jordaan district. The building itself informs our practice: we believe in adaptive reuse, honest materiality, and the beauty of things that age with grace.

We accept a limited number of new commissions each year. If your project aligns with our practice, we'd welcome a conversation.
